The man, described to be in his thirties, fell into the water at around 4.30am on Tuesday while the Silja Symphony was sailing around 30 kilometres south of Örö in the Finnish archipelago, according to a report in the Aftonbladet daily.
The Finnish sea rescue service was dispatched to search for the man along with several other cruise ships, including the Viking Mariella and an Estonian vessel.
After a 90 minute search the man was spotted by the Silja Symphony and the sea rescue service was able to pluck him out of the cool waters with the help of a helicopter.
The man was taken to hospital in Turku and is reported to have suffered no serious injury.
“He had a slight injury in his leg and was cold, but he was in pretty good shape,” said Samu Hiljanen at the Finnish Lifeboat Society to the newspaper.
According to Hiljanen the water temperature at the location of the accident was around 15-20 degrees Celsius.
It remains unclear why the man fell overboard.
