The young man says he was raped during a trip to Munich on a French-German exchange programme in June 2011.
In an interview with daily Le Telegramme, Eric Morain, the lawyer representing the victim, says the man was unable to attend his exams at the military academy Saint-Cyr, near Rennes, 15 days after the alleged assault.
In July 2011, the soldier appeared before his academy’s disciplinary board and was excluded from his training course.
The French Army however denies allegations it excluded the soldier because he was gay. The communications agency of the army, Sirpa terre, says the soldier was expelled because of “poor academic results, repeated absences, and atypical behaviour.”
The Rennes administrative court should rule on the case within a year, Morain says. Meanwhile a criminal investigation is ongoing into rape allegations.
