Sated diners denied dessert

When three diners at a Gothenburg restaurant were unable to eat everything on their plates, they were not only denied dessert, but also unceremoniously thrown out of the restaurant.

Sated diners denied dessert

“I don’t like guests who waste,” said the manager to local newspaper Göteborgs-Posten.

On Tuesday night, when the three friends visited Bamboo Mongolian Barbeque in central Gothenburg, they all filled their plates at the buffet table, with one of them even making a return visit.

The second time around, however, he was too full to polish it all off. When a waiter who came to clear off their table and offer them dessert saw this, he pointed out that dessert was only offered to diners who had finished their meals.

He called the manager, who became very agitated, according to the disgruntled diners.

“The boss flipped out and started swearing. ‘Go to hell, you’re never welcome here’,” said 22 year-old Danilo Riquelme to Göteborgs-Posten.

“We were thrown out in the most unpleasant manner. My friend wasn’t even allowed to finish his beer.”

Manager Henrik Cui stands by his decision to toss out the full diners.

“Take one plate, take two, and sit here all day if you like – but don’t throw away food. I don’t like guests who waste, they aren’t welcome here,” he said to the newspaper.

“If the food wasn’t to their liking it’s one thing, but he said he was too full. Then how could he still want dessert?”

This isn’t the first time the restaurant has chosen to expel diners for leaving plates half-full.

Henrik Cui is now offering his guests from this Tuesday to return to the restaurant and pick up their dessert – but they’ll have to eat it by the door.

Riquelme, however, is no longer interested.

“After that scolding, of course I don’t want to return,” he said to Göteborgs-Posten.

The Social Democrats, Green Party and Left Party have managed to oust the right-wing Moderates from power in Gothenburg, despite failing to strike a coalition deal with the Centre Party.

Red-green coalition takes power in Gothenburg

The Social Democrats, Left Party and Green Party will now take over the municipality with Jonas Attenius, group leader for the Social Democrats in the city, becoming the new mayor.

“We three parties are ready to together take responsibility for leading Gothenburg,” Attenius wrote to TT. “I am looking forward immensely to leading Gothenburg in the coming years.”

The three parties will lead a minority government, with 40 out of 81 mandates, meaning it will dependent on mandates from the Centre Party to pass proposals.

The three parties had hoped to bring the Centre Party into the coalition, but talks fell apart on Monday,  October 24th.

“We our going into opposition, but our goal is to be an independent, liberal force, which can negotiate both to the left and to the right,” the party’s group leader in Gothenburg, Emmyly Bönfors told the Göteborgs-Posten newspaper.

The end of talks in Gothenburg leave the Social Democrats leading coalition governments in all three of Sweden’s major cities, with Karin Wanngård appointed Mayor of Stockholm on October 17th.

The Social Democrats had unbroken control in Malmö since 1994, after they regained power from the Moderates, who controlled the city from 1991-1994, and also from 1985-1988.
