According to emergency service SOS Alarm, the driver was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. Apart from him the train, which was departing for Stockholm, was thankfully empty.
The train was severely damaged, and the carriages were squashed together and piled on top of one another. For safety’s sake, everyone in the vicinity of the accident was evacuated from the hall.
The accident occurred when the train backed into track seven, where it was to stop, and then depart in the opposite direction for Stockholm at 11:17am.
“It drove into the buffer stop at the end of the tracks,” Johan Ingerö from the national rail service SJ’s press office told news agency TT.
According to the information Johan Ingerö has received, the train driver was on the end of the train that did not crash into the stop.
“There were no passengers on board,” Johan Ingerö confirmed.
There will be delays between Stockholm and Malmö following this accident, but it is as of yet unclear how the rail service will be affected during the clean-up work.
