“After a wet summer in 2010 domestic-grown Christmas trees are of the best quality and will cost about as much as last year,” president of the AGDW association of timber owners Philipp zu Guttenberg told daily Ruhr Nachrichten.
A Nordmann Fir, Germany’s favourite Tannenbaum variety, will range between €16 and €20 per metre in most of the country, and about €25 per metre in southern states.
About 80 percent of the demand for Christmas trees can be covered by domestic growers, Guttenberg told the paper.
The AGDW president, younger brother of Defence Minister Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg, said demand was expected to remain stable this year, with an expected 25 million Christmas trees sold.
