Madeleine expresses thanks for public support

Princess Madeleine, who has been on a time out after breaking off her engagement in April, has expressed her thanks for the support of the Swedish people after returning to Sweden in time for her sister's wedding.

“The princess is very pleased to be attending the wedding of the Crown Princess on June 19th,” according to a Royal Court press release.

Madeleine has spent the last few months in the USA, where she travelled to get over the break up from Stockholm lawyer Jonas Bergström after revelations in the media over an alleged dalliance with a Norwegian handball player.

Madeleine officially travelled to New York to work with the World Childhood Foundation, an organization founded by her mother Queen Silvia, although in May the Royal Court announced that she was taking a time out from official engagements.

“She needs personal time and peace and quiet. Madeleine is not feeling too good,” Nina Eldh at the Royal Court told the Aftonbladet daily at the time.

As the announcement was made of Madeleine’s imminent return to Sweden, the princess took the opportunity to express her thanks for the support of the Swedish people since the break up from her partner of eight years.

“She would like to thank for all the support and kindness she has received of late,” the Royal Court said.

Princess Madeleine, 28, and Bergström, 31, announced their engagement in August 2009. The announcement that Madeleine was due to follow Victoria down the aisle took many royal watchers in Sweden by surprise, coming so soon after her big sister’s announcement.
