Princess feels ‘panic’ as wedding nears

Crown Princess Victoria has said she is eagerly awaiting her impending wedding but confessed to feeling a sense of panic as her big day draws near.

Princess feels 'panic' as wedding nears

Marriage and starting a family will be “fantastic. We are very impatient but a bit stressed too, a bit nervous. There is some panic over having to organise everything for the wedding,” she told public broadcaster Sveriges Radio in an interview.

“But all engaged couples must experience this feeling of panic,” added Victoria, 32, who is the eldest daughter of King Carl XVI Gustaf.

The princess’s wedding to luxury fitness club owner Daniel Westling on June 19 has provoked strong feelings in Sweden, where a recent poll showed a growing number of Swedes want to abolish the monarchy.

The April survey showed 58 percent of Swedes still favour the royal family, but also indicated that the number opposed to the monarchy had more than doubled in the past decade to 28 percent.

The princess said the “support we have received from the people of Sweden is magnificent”.

Victoria and Westling have been officially engaged since February 2009.

The princess has two siblings, Carl Philip, 31 and Madeleine, 27, who recently separated from a Stockholm lawyer.
