The boy was badly hurt in the incident and was rushed by ambulance helicopter to Astrid Lindgren’s Children’s Hospital in Stockholm where he died on Wednesday.
Police were called to the property and have now confirmed initial reports that it was the father of the child who was driving the car and reversed over his son in an unsupervised moment.
“He backed the car out of a car port and the child walked in behind the car in an unsupervised moment. The mother was also at the farm but was not nearby,” said Thomas Jöhnemark at Sörmlands police.
The incident and the boy’s death have been classified as an accident and the family has been provided with crisis support to help them deal with their tragic loss.
