“The mild air in play with the already strong March sun will help the temperatures rise quickly,“ DWD meteorologist Andreas Friedrich said in a statement, predicting highs of up to 22 degrees Celsius in the Upper Rhine region on Wednesday and Thursday afternoon.
But because it’s still early spring, the nights will be chilly, with possible frost in some regions.
Meanwhile those with springtime allergies should have tissues at hand, the DWD recommended, predicting a pollen influx.
After the spurt of warmth, the weekend forecast is looking less rosy, however. Temperatures are expected to drop once again as a cold front carrying rain arrives on Friday afternoon in western regions.
The weather pattern will mean a dramatic change in the Alps, where temperatures will go from highs of 21 degrees Celsius on Friday to snow and freezing temperatures at high altitudes on Saturday morning.
While snow won’t make it to the flatlands over the weekend, the DWD recommended not getting out your shorts just yet, as highs won’t surpass a rainy 8 to 14 degrees.
