According to reports reaching the Swedish news agency TT, the container held five tonnes of inflammables, seven tons of environmentally damaging substances that could damage the coastline, and eight tonnes of unspecified environmentally damaging materials.
Following an unsuccessful Coast Guard air search, ships in the area have been asked to be on the lookout. The vessel itself was en route to St. Petersburg, and when it comes into port will be the subject of an investigation by Finnish officials.
A total of three containers fell into the Baltic Sea in the accident. The contents in the two other containers were not disclosed.
