Berlin’s fifth annual “Festival of Lights” kicked off on Wednesday night featuring more than 50 illuminated city landmarks, which will be accompanied by events and firework displays over the next 10 days.

The Brandenburg Gate, TV Tower and Berlin Cathedral were among the famous spots brightened by projections and targeted lights developed by light artist Andreas Boehlke.

“Lightseers” can view the sparkling event via boat, bus, limousine, or horse-drawn coach until October 25 from 7 pm to midnight.

Special events will accompany the festival, such as the “Night of Open Doors” on the October 17, which allows visitors a special glimpse inside landmarks and institutions, and the 10k Light Run on the 24th.

And for those who can’t resist a chance to create a Hallmark moment, members of the public can pay to have their personal message projected onto the Brandenburg Gate during the festivities.
