“Of course we are very sorry for the tragic outcome of this case, but we have determined that the relevant questions were put during the contact and the advice was appropriate according to the applicable guidelines,” said head doctor Barbro Nordström, in a local health care authority statement.
According to the inquiry, the man’s father rang the medical advice line, 1177, last Thursday.
It did not emerge from the conversation that the patient was in one of the Swedish Health and Welfare Board’s (Socialstyrelsen) specified risk groups.
“The nurse that took the phone call gave good information and advice on the basis of the problem that the man described. He got advice that if the fever persisted to contact a doctor and he was even given the telephone number for that contact,” wrote Nordström.
The head doctor at the infections clinic at the Academic Hospital will now conduct a further assessment of the investigation.
