According to a survey carried out by the Sifo polling firm for the Aftonbladet newspaper, one third of Swedes think the 62-year-old King should abdicate the throne when he reaches retirement age and let Victoria become Sweden’s monarch.
The most pressure on the King to vacate his post in favour of his daughter comes from women.
A full 44 percent of women between the ages of 30- and 49-years-old want to see Queen Victoria take over the monarchy from her father.
Nevertheless, the King still has broad support, with 45 percent of respondents saying they want him to remain as Sweden’s official head of state.
The study also reveals that Victoria is the most popular of the royal children. More than two out of three respondents think she’s the best, while her younger brother, Prince Carl Philip, only has support of 2 percent of those surveyed.
The Swedish royal family’s subjects also aren’t concerned about the gender of any future heir – 70 percent said it didn’t matter.
The survey results were drawn from the responses of 1,000 interviews with people 15-years-old and above.
