Christian Democrats rebound in new poll

Sweden's Christian Democrats have started to recover voter support, a new poll from Demoskop published in the Expressen newspaper, has shown.

Christian Democrats rebound in new poll

Meanwhile the opposition Social Democrats claimed the backing of over 40 percent of the electorate.

Göran Hägglund’s Christian Democrats, long the weakest link in the four-party Alliance coalition, climbed above the threshold required to claim seats in parliament at a general election with the support of 4.2 percent of voters surveyed. The party languished on 2.5 percent in Demoskop’s previous poll.

The steady climb for Fredrik Reinfeldt’s Moderates appears to have been broken for the time being with the party falling 2.5 percentage points to 29 percent.

Mona Sahlin’s Social Democrats increased their support base by 2.1 points in the poll and can now claim the support of 40.1 percent of the electorate.

The four-party governing Alliance polled a combined 44.7 of voter sympathies while the tripartite opposition could lay claim to 52 percent.

The survey was conducted between January 28th and February 4th. 1,001 people were interviewed.
