As of 7:00am, flight traffic was flowing smoothly at the airport, but officials expected congestion to worsen throughout the day.
“It’s not as bad as Monday, but we can still only use one of the three runways because of blowing snow. We’re therefore expecting at least one hour delays for every flight,” said Arlanda spokesperson Susanne Rundström to the TT news agency.
Even if the snow stops falling, it will be some time before Arlanda is once again operating at full capacity.
“It takes a while to plough and remove the snow from the two other runways,” she said.
Rundström doesn’t think, however, that it will be necessary to redirect flights to other airports in the Stockholm area.
