Police said 16 people were treated in hospital, but that none were in a life-threatening condition.

An all-clear was issued by authorities on Saturday evening.

A fire in the factory resulted in an uncontrolled release of carbon dioxide gas. “More and more people living right next to the factory are reporting feeling dizzy and sick,” a fire fighter told reporters.

A helicopter was used in the area to disperse the cloud of carbon dioxide, while police closed the motorway exits nearby and closed roads in a two kilometre range.

An investigation into the cause of the accident will start on Monday.
