Georgians in Russian Embassy protest

Members of the Swedish-Georgian Society gathered outside the Russian Embassy in Stockholm to voice their anger at Moscow's handling of the conflict in the Caucasus.

Around 50 demonstrators, many with friends and family in Georgia, listened to a range of speakers and sang songs just outside the embassy grounds.

“A lot of civilians have died, many of them children. We don’t know why the Russians have come to our country,” said Vazka Beroshvili, a construction worker bearing a large Georgian flag.

A number of protesters suggested that Russia was eager to halt the march of democracy in Georgia and wished to bring the former Soviet republic back under its control.

“People are very stressed and there is a lot of disinformation out there, particularly from Russian news sources,” Beroshvili told The Local.
