On Tuesday evening, one German patrol of four vehicles from the Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT) in Kunduz was hit by small arms fire. The German military command in Potsdam confirmed the attack, which took place some three kilometres east of the Bundeswehr camp.
The attackers fled after the German troops returned fire. Reinforcements from the camp including Afghan police arrived, but not before the five armed insurgents could escape.
The other incident took place 7 kilometres northeast of the German camp on the same evening. Explosives damaged one vehicle, but no one was hurt. Another explosive device was found and destroyed before it could be detonated. The two attacks end a period of relative calm near Kunduz, where in the past there were nearly daily rocket attacks on the German camp.
