Around 20,000 participants in colourful costumes wound their way through the city’s streets either on foot or on one of some 60 floats.
The motto of this year’s parade is “Zero Tolerance,” which, according to organizers, is meant to draw attention to the fact that homosexuals are still discriminated against in many areas of society.
“We wanted to make it clear that we’re not victims, rather that we’re a strong minority,” a spokesperson said.
Cologne’s CSD parade is one of the largest in Europe and is the highlight of a range of events taking place this weekend in the city on the Rhine.
