The latest developments are “frightening,” a spokesperson for insurer Techniker Krankenkasse told the paper.

The insurer has detailed new figures on hospitalizations for acute alcohol poisoning among German youth which show the problem has doubled in the last five years, the paper reported.

In the last year, 1,134 boys and 6,888 girls insured by Techniker Krankenkasse were hospitalized for excessive drinking.
