Volvo Cars spokeswoman Maria Bohlin said the models affected were the V70 and XC 70, adding that the United States and Canada were not concerned by the recall.
She said 22,384 vehicles are being recalled in Sweden, 6,243 in Germany and 1,784 in France.
Because of a technical problem one of the lateral airbags does not deploy as quickly as had been planned, she explained.
“We are talking about a very small time …thousandths of seconds,” she said, adding that during the recall the software involved would be adjusted to become “more efficient.”
