MAYOR

New Stockholm mayor named

Moderate Party Riksdag member Sten Nordin is the unanimous choice of his party’s City Hall nominating committee to take over as Stockholm’s new mayor.

“Sten Nordin is a remarkable leader for the Moderates, for the majority in City Hall, and for Stockholm,” wrote Inger Kock, chair of the nominating committee.

Nordin will be formally appointed on Friday during a meeting of the Moderate Party members of the Stockholm city council.

He will also take over as leader of the Moderate Party group at City Hall.

Nordin will take over the reins as the mayor of Sweden’s capital city from Kristina Axén Olin, who unexpectedly left the post last week to spend more time with her family.

However, Axén Olin has elected to remain in her post as the second vice-chair of the Moderate Party’s governing board.
