“In January alone 27,000 new jobs were created,” Gesamtmetall President Martin Kannegiesser told German tabloid daily Bild on Tuesday.
This many jobs haven’t been created in the industry for 40 years, he went on. If the trend continues, some 147,000 new positions will be created within the year.
Kannegiesser said he doesn’t expect job cuts caused by the strong euro.
“The strong euro effects the metal and electronics industries variably. So far there have generally been no job cuts,” he said.
