Swedish soldier injured in Afghan explosion

A Swedish soldier has been injured after an explosive device detonated under an army vehicle in Afghanistan.

The explosion happened early on Sunday morning, Swedish time. According to the Swedish Defence Forces’ homepage, the soldier sustained minor injuries to the lower back. He is being treated at a German field hospital.

Swedish army medical staff and Mats Danielsson, commander of the Swedish troops in the international ISAF force in Afghanistan, have also been taken to the hospital.

Three vehicles holding 9 soldiers were involved in the incident in the the Qushtepa area of the southern Jowzjan province. The other personnel were unharmed.

The soldier has contacted his family to inform them of the incident.

An investigation is underway to determine the circumstances behind the explosion.
