The suspect was arrested during a major police operation in the town on Thursday evening.
In the course of their invetigations, police in the town found a quantity of a dangerous chemical substance in the woman’s car.
“It is suspected that the poisonous substance was placed in the victim’s car at a time when her former boyfriend was making use of the vehicle,” said the police in a statement, adding that nobody had come to any harm in connection with the poisonous substance.
According to prosecutor Ulla-Karin Lindström, the man ordered the poison from another country and was caught when he went to pick up the package from the post office. He was charge on Friday with attempted murder.
The suspect however denies committing an offence.
“And he has a sensible explanation for the matters of which he is accused by the prosecutor,” his lawyer Jan Wennerbrandt told local newspaper Norrländska Socialdemokraten.
