Bouncer arrested over Gamla Stan shooting

A second person has been detained in connection with the shooting earlier this week of a Swedish aristocrat and his girlfriend in Gamla Stan in central Stockholm.

The man detained on Thursday evening is suspected of having fired the shots that left the two victims needing hospital treatment, Expressen reports.

He is a 41-year-old bouncer with an address in the prosperous Stockholm suburb of Lidingö, according to the newspaper.

“A detention order was put out for this person during the day and the person was brought in for questioning this evening,” police spokeswoman Petra Sjölander told TT late on Thursday.

The injured man’s ex-wife, a woman in her forties, was arrested shortly after the attack on suspicions that she hired a gunman in an attempt to have her former husband and his new girlfriend killed. She has denied any involvement in the attack.

“She rejects all accusations and was not involved in what happened in any way,” said her lawyer, Claes Borgström.

Both victims are described as being in a stable condition at Karolinska University Hospital.

The violent drama unfolded outside the Storkyrka School in Stockholm’s Old Town around 5.30pm on Tuesday.

The victims, a man and a woman both in their thirties, were hit by several bullets. The man was shot in the chest and head, while the woman was hit in the throat and face.

Police said the assailant arrived at the scene of the shooting at around 4pm on Tuesday and waited for the aristocrat and his girlfriend to arrive.

The shooter then fled the scene on a yellow scooter wearing a helmet with a visor pulled down over his face.

Suspects held after 38-year-old shot dead on Södermalm in Stockholm

Several people are being held after a man in his 40s was shot dead in Stockholm's Södermalm district.

Suspects held after 38-year-old shot dead on Södermalm in Stockholm

The shooting happened at around 6.20pm on Monday evening and a huge police operation was immediately launched.

Police cordoned off the area around Helgalunden on Allhelgonagatan, which is close to the busy Götgatan street, Skanstull metro station and the Internationella Engelska Gymnasiet high school.

Sweden’s public broadcaster SVT reports that the victim is a 38-year-old man with links to gang crime, although police said it was too early to say whether the shooting was connected to a gang conflict.

Swedish tabloid Aftonbladet reports that one of the suspects is a man in his 20s, with a police record of a series of minor offences but no violent crime convictions. Police said there were other people in custody too, but declined to say what they were suspected of.

The shooting happened in front of several witnesses.

“I live 50 metres from the scene and ran downstairs with a blanket and first aid kit. It was nice seeing so many people already there trying to save a life,” a witness told SVT.

“This happened in the middle of the day near the metro where there are a lot of people. This is otherwise a safe area. At the same time, it’s sad no matter where shootings happen.”
