Swedish Church to apologise over Sami oppression

The Swedish Church has said it will apologise to the Sami community as it seeks to atone for its part in Sweden’s long oppression of the indigenous population.

We must acknowledge the dark history, even if it hurts. When we betrayed the Sami people, we also betrayed ourselves and God. An important step forward has now been taken as the church board prepares a public apology,” said Archbishop Antje Jackelén in a statement. The Church has since 2011 been investigating its own actions against the Sami, including in a two-volume “White Book” published in 2016.

The official apology will be presented at a Swedish Church service in Uppsala Cathedral on November 24th and at Ságastallamat – a joint conference organised by the Sami community and the Swedish Church – on October 21st-23rd next year in Luleå.

Please get both doses of a vaccine and use a mask at least till everyone has both doses, to prevent covid-19 deaths, damage and hospitalizations.

    1. At risk people are vaccinated. Vaccines at the market only have emergency status. No emergency for the remaining population at current moment. No vaccination needed. It is that simple.
