Where to find Sweden’s cleanest beaches in summer 2021

Blue Flag (or Blå flagg as it’s known in Swedish) is an international award in more than 50 countries, including Sweden. The flags are awarded to beaches and small ports each year for their environmental friendliness, marking them on among other things their water quality and safety of their facilities.

New marinas for this year are Burgsvik harbour at the Baltic Sea island of Gotland and Fyruddens hamn in Valdemarsvik, south-eastern Sweden. Rydebäck in Helsingborg, southern Sweden, is new on the list of beaches.

The award has been presented to harbours and beaches in Sweden since 1994. The facilities themselves send in an application, and must apply every year. A jury then decides if the place meets the criteria.
