How many wolves live in Sweden?
Sweden’s population of wolves is growing, with experts announcing there were 395 wolves in the country last winter, an increase of 30 (or eight percent) in one year.
The figures were presented by the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency, which every winter counts the wildlife population to keep tabs on the number of wolves.
Most wolves lived in the forests of central Sweden last winter, including the Värmland, Dalarna, Gävleborg and Örebro regions, followed by Västmanland. They are also moving further south, with one pair of wolves marking their territory in Skåne.

Political festival gets under way in Stockholm
Järvaveckan, a political festival held every year in the Järva area north of Stockholm, gets under way today. It originated in 2013 as a much smaller film festival, with only 600 people, but after it began to gain traction, its founder Ahmed Abdirahman decided to begin inviting political party leaders to speak. Years later it is one of the largest events of its kind, drawing thousands of visitors every year.
Not this year, however, at least not in person. Due to the pandemic, it is instead being held online. It will broadcast live from a studio in the Rinkeby suburb between June 2nd and 6th, with interviews with several high-profile politicians and government ministers.

New report: Anti-Semitism falling in Sweden
A new study commissioned by the Living History Forum suggests that anti-Semitic views and attitudes are on the decrease among the general population in Sweden. The proportion of respondents who did not agree with any of the various anti-Semitic attitudes listed in a survey increased to 66 percent in 2020, from 57 percent in the same study in 2005.
But among people who hold very strong anti-Semitic views, there has been little change. They made up five percent of respondents, compared to six percent in 2005.

Swedish police investigate spate of shootings
Stockholm police are investigating after two men were shot dead in separate shootings in less than 24 hours. A man in his 30s was found injured in the Hjulsta suburb of north-western Stockholm just before midnight on Monday. He later died in hospital.
On Monday afternoon, another man aged around 25-30 had been shot dead in nearby Husby. Two men are being held in connection with the shooting, and police are investigating whether or not there could be a link between the two incidents.
Another fatal shooting took place in Hjällbo in north-eastern Gothenburg on Sunday, where a man in his 40s was shot dead outside a grocery store, in what was initially described as a conflict between two families. The victim himself did not have a criminal record, and a local police officer in the area described him as a “nice” and “hard-working” man. A man in his early 20s is being held on suspicion of murder.
