Stockholm opens vaccinations to over-18s – here’s how to book your Covid shot

The vaccination booking process for Covid-19 varies slightly around the country, so here's our quick English-language guide for people in Stockholm, where the booking system is now open for everyone who has turned 18.

As of July 9th, anyone aged over 18 is eligible to book the Covid-19 vaccine in Stockholm. Please note that you have to have turned 18 to be able to book; 17-year-olds who will turn 18 later this year are not yet eligible.

In Stockholm, you can either book a time by downloading the app Alltid Öppet from the App Store or Google Play, or by calling the booking phone number. The phone number to book in English is 08 428 429 20, which is available between 8am and 7pm on weekdays. Find out information about booking times in other languages from 1177.se

If you have difficulties logging in to the app, or if no times are available, you should try again later. To book via the app you need a digital ID, in other words BankID or Freya e-id. That isn’t necessary for the phone booking service, but you do need a Swedish personal number (personnummer) for that. Be aware that the app can sometimes be hard to access if a lot of people are trying to book at once.

If you do not have a personnummer, you are still eligible for the free vaccine but the region advises you to contact your doctor’s office (vårdcentral) directly. You can find out contact details for doctor’s offices in Stockholm from 1177.se. If you get told that you need a personnummer to book, that’s not correct, so here’s what you can do.

If you are taking certain blood-thinning medicines or have previously had a strong allergic reaction, you may need to speak to your doctor before booking your vaccination.

The region recommends preparing for your vaccine by wearing clothes which will make it easy to get the jab (for example, a short-sleeved jumper), and making sure you don’t plan any activities in the days after the vaccine in case you get side effects and need to stay home. It also recommends arriving on time but not too far in advance, in order to avoid crowding at the centre, and bringing a face mask.

You should bring a form of ID with you, as well as the health declaration (hälsodeklaration) which you should be given by your doctor’s office before you book (this might be on paper if you received a letter, or online if you booked online). Here’s an English version.

If you develop any symptoms of Covid-19, including a cough, sore throat, or fever, you need to cancel your appointment and rebook another slot.

Vaccination against Covid-19 is free in Sweden, including for those without a personnummer, and it is the individual’s choice whether or not you get vaccinated.

When you get your second dose will depend on which vaccine you receive and availability of vaccines. If you booked your first dose via the app, you should get a text when you can book your second dose using the app. If you booked your first dose over the phone, the region says it is currently not possible to book a second dose.

The process may vary in other regions, so if you live outside Stockholm, check with your regional authorities.
