Transport minister Benny Engelbrecht said on Friday that the Social Democrats would not favour such a plan, after it was put forward in a report by a green transport commission.

The idea was included in a report published Friday by the so-called Car Commission (Bilkommission), which was appointed in 2019 to analyse ways to improve Danish traffic sustainability.
Two possible models are put forward in the commission’s report: one in which a per-minute charge is applied for driving within the congestion zone; and a daily charge.
The payment would also depend on the time of the journey, with higher charges at the peak hours of 7-9am and 3-5pm.
Although the Social Democrats are opposed to the proposal, they have favoured a similar one in the past.
In 2012, the coalition government led by the party shelved plans for a so-called ‘pay ring’ (betalingsring) after facing opposition to the measure.
