VIDEO: Three injured as driverless train derails in northern Italy

A train derailed on the line between Milan and Lake Como on Wednesday, but fortunately there was only one passenger on board who escaped with minor injuries.

Three carriages on a train travelling between Milan and Lecco in the northern Italian region of Lombardy went off a truncated track near the town of Carnate at noon.

Reports citing regional railway provider Trenord stated that the conductor, train supervisor and one passenger were slightly injured in the incident.
 
Italian news agency Ansa reported that the train was driverless, though authorities have yet to confirm the cause of the crash.
 
The only passenger travelling on the train reportedy broke a window to escape, and was given first aid at the scene before being transported to hospital as a precaution.
 
Images shared by the Italian fire brigade showed one car leaning on its side and another at a 45 degree angle off the track.
 
The line connects Milan and the Lake Como, and crosses the industrial area of Brianza.
