Swedish actor Max von Sydow dies at 90

The Swedish actor Max von Sydow, who appeared in films and series including Star Wars and Game of Thrones, has died at the age of 90.

A statement from his wife, producer Catherine Brelet, to AFP confirmed that von Sydow had passed away in France. 

“It is with a broken heart and with infinite sadness that we have the extreme pain of announcing the departure of Max von Sydow” on Sunday, the statement sent to AFP said.

Von Sydow first rose to fame starring in several films directed by fellow Swede Ingmar Bergman. It was his appearance in The Exorcist in 1973 that made him an international star.
