For the tenth year running, Spain’s Ministry of Agriculture has gathered a panel of cheese connoisseurs for a blind taste test.
A total of 223 cheeses produced in Spain were savoured and gobbled up by 24 seasoned tasters from food research centres, universities, regulatory councils, and cheese producing associations.
So without further ado, here were the winners in the different cheese categories (most of them are not readily available in supermarkets across Spain but can be bought directly from the cheese farm).
Mature cow's cheese: Pazo de Anzuxao from Pontevedra (Galicia)
Mature sheep's cheese : Cremositos del Zújar from Badajoz (Extremadura)
Available at Carrefour supermarket
Mature goat's cheese : El Retamar de Cabra from Toledo (Castilla y la Mancha)
Mature cheese mix: Queso Pajarete Mezcla from Cádiz (Andalusia)
Blue/matured with mould cheese: Flor de Dehesa from Salamanca (Castilla y León)
