Every year on Shrove Tuesday (Fettisdagen), Swedes gorge themselves on cream-filled pastries called semlor (singular: semla). But what’s so special about this sweet bun and what makes a perfect semla?
Briton Tomas Spragg Nilsson, who is on a quest to tick as many items off his Swedish bucket list before he applies for citizenship, sat down with The Local Sweden’s editor to try semlor from three different Stockholm bakeries.
