“It's going to be generally windy across the country,” Marcus Sjöstedt, meteorologist at Sweden's national weather agency SMHI, told the TT newswire on Wednesday morning.

Alerts have also been issued for snow in northern Sweden and grass fires from southern Sweden up to the Stockholm and Gävle region.

“The air is very dry and combined with the wind and the easily flammable grass from last year, there's a risk of wildfires,” said Sjöstedt.

SMHI warned of gusts of wind of around 75 km/h in the Skåne region on Wednesday.

Public transport operator Skånetrafiken said that commuters should expect longer journey times.

Regional trains between Helsingborg and Lund will not stop between Ramlösa and Lund between 9am and 6pm, and replacement buses are running between Helsingborg and Eslöv.
