Sunday night saw more tense scenes in the Paris suburbs, this time in Argenteuil to the north west of the city.

Eleven people were arrested after around 50 people staged violent protests, which were reportedly organized via social media.

The protesters torched a van (see picture below), set fire to several bins, destroyed bus stops, and vandalized a bus.

The driver of the bus was left with injuries to his face.

The protesters also threw projectiles at police officers, although no injuries were reported.

The protests come after around 2,000 people took to the streets of Bobigny on Saturday night for violent protests over the assault of a young man who was allegedly anally raped with a truncheon while being arrested on February 2nd.

It remains unclear if Sunday's protests in Argenteuil were linked to those on Saturday, which also saw rallies in the French cities of Rouen, Toulouse, and Nantes, however police sources told Le Figaro newpaper that they were “without a doubt” connected.

The tensions began in Aulnay-sous-Bois to the north east of Paris, after police allegedly raped the 22-year-old Theo.

A preliminary investigation said there was insufficient proof to support the rape allegations. The victim was hospitalized and advised by doctors to take two months off work.
