Horse freed from rail crossing

A fire rescue team from Parndorf freed a horse from being trapped on a railway crossing on Saturday afternoon.

The right rear hoof of the horse had stuck fast into the gap between the rail and a wooden plate.
 
The horse lay on the tracks, unable to free its hoof.
 
The train service was alerted, and all traffic on the line was halted during the rescue.
 
Thirteen firefighters from Parndorf were involved in the rescue.
 
 
At the horse was very frightened, it had to be sedated during the rescue operation.
 
As soon as the horse had calmed down, firefighters took 10 minutes to extricate it from the trap.
 
Once the horse was free, train traffic was resumed soon afterwards.
