Here’s what Danes Googled the most in 2016

But for Danes, nothing could top Pokemon Go. At least when it came to Google searchers. 

 

According to its annual year-end list released on Wednesday, the smartphone game Pokemon Go was the year’s biggest trending search term in Denmark. 

 

The game, which became a global phenomenon when it was released in July, wasn’t the only term that might make one assume that Denmark is a nation of tech-obsessed geeks. Coming in at third was iPhone 7, while the fourth most-searched term was Slither.io, a modern take on the classic cell phone game Snake. 

 

The results follow a year in which ‘agar.io' – a massively multiplayer game where you play a single-cell life form in a giant petri dish – topped Danes’ Google searches in 2015.

 

Proving that they’re not all about playing games on their phone, the second most-searched term was ‘EM’, the Danish term for the 2016 UEFA European Championship, which was held over the summer without Denmark’s participation. ‘OL’, the Danish term for the Olympics came in at number eight, followed by Tour de France at number nine. 

 

Two celebrity deaths cracked the top ten, with Danes’ searches for David Bowie and Prince coming in at number six and ten respectively. 

 

Donald Trump was the only news maker to crack the top ten, with the US president-elect the Danes’ seventh most popular search. He was, however, behind only Bowie on the list of most-searched non-Danes, where he was joined by his wife Melania (fifth), daughter Ivanka (tenth) and vanquished rival Hillary Clinton (sixth).

 

Norwegian TV phenomenon Skam rounded out the top ten at number five. 

 

The list of the most-searched Danes was topped by Olympic gold medalist Pernille Blume, followed by pop sensation Lukas Graham and X Factor host Mette Lindberg. 

 

The list of “What…?” questions was headed by “What do I get paid?”, while the most popular “How…?” inquiry was “How do you make an app?”
