Trains between Paris and CDG airport remain suspended

Train services between the centre of Paris and the city's main airport were still not running on Wednesday morning, meaning travel chaos for air passengers trying to get to or from Charles de Gaulle airport.

Air passengers in Paris faced ongoing travel disruption on Wednesday morning with the RER B service which links the centre to Charles de Gaulle airport still out of action.

No RER B trains have running between on the stations since Tuesday morning after a train brought down overhead power cables.

The damage stretched over a full kilometre (0.6 miles), cutting traffic between Paris and the airport, which lies to the north of the capital.

Transport chiefs had hoped to fix the problem by Wednesday morning but then said services would remain out of action until at least midday on Wednesday. Buses were running between Aulnay-sous-Bois and Charles de Gaulle airport.

There were also hopes of a progressive restarting of services throughout “mid-morning”.

The official RER B Twitter account said a shuttle train will be set up on Wednesday between Gare du Nord and CDG, and that it would run every 80 mins from 7am to 1pm. By Wednesday another TGV had been put into service and services appeared to be running every 45 minutes.

RER B usually carries around 900,000 passengers each day, but these passengers have been told to seek alternative transport.

Airport passengers can take buses to Charles de Gaulle airport from Gare du Nord or the alternative is to take a taxi, which should cost between €50 and €55 euros.

The government is currently looking at building an express link between Paris and CDG, which would cut the travel time to 20 minutes.
