There's no better place to work than at US tech giant Microsoft, at least according to Microsoft employees who have left company reviews on jobs site GlassDoor.

The survey saw employees from companies across France anonymously rating their employer, their work, the office environment, and the company itself.

The survey, published on Wednesday, found that Microsoft workers gave an average 4.6 rating out of 5, enough to take it to top place from its silver medal finish last year.

Microsoft employees were quick to praise their salaries, work-life balance, and the benefits they received.

Their reviews posted online also highlighted the pleasures of “working with competent people”, “learning an enormous amount”, and a “cool atmosphere”.

Second place with a score of 4.3 out of five was DIY retailer Leroy Merlin. Employees often cited the generosity of their bosses, the quality of the work environment, and “a motivating management style”.

Six companies made their first appearance in the top ten this year, Total, Dassault Systemes, GE, Crédit Agricole, Danone and L'Oréal.

Meanwhile, pharmaceutical group Sanofi-Aventis dropped from first place last year to 13th this year.

Top ten:

1. Microsoft (technology)
2. Leroy Merlin (home and gardens retailer)
3. Decathlon (sports retailer)
4. Airbus Group (aerospace)
5. Total (oil and gas)
6. Dassault Systemes (software)
7. GE (conglomerate)
8. Crédit Agricole (bank)
9. Danone (food products)
10. L'Oréal (cosmetics)
