Women with fake boobs can join police: German court

A court in western Germany ruled on Wednesday that police were wrong to have rejected a female applicant because she had breast implants.

The court in Gelsenkirchen ruled that the silicon implants did not significantly increase the level of risk the 32-year-old woman would face as a police officer.

Three years ago, a police doctor rejected the Dortmund native’s application on medical grounds, despite her having successfully passed every other requirement for entry.

Police regulations state that police officers are not allowed breast implants because of the increased health risks associated with them, such as the possibility they would rip during an operation.

But based on a medical report by the University of Bonn, the judge said that the police would have to review their regulations.

The report concluded that there was no substantial risk to the plaintiff’s health due to her breast enlargements.

The woman’s lawyer, Sven Ollmann, said it was important to note that his client's implants belonged to a new generation which is upmarket.

“Even if they were to rip, nothing would happen,” he said, adding that their position behind the breast muscle also meant they were protected.

The authorities in North Rhine-Westphalia are now set to study the medical report before deciding if they want to appeal the ruling.

The woman, who is currently a nurse, will now have to retake the police application tests which she already completed three years ago.

But it seems like that won’t put her off.

“She really wants to become a police officer,” her lawyer said.
