The heir to the throne also stressed that it is important that Norway maintain good relations with the US under President-Elect Donald Trump.

“The Americans have made their choice for who they want as president and that is something that Norway will of course accept. The prime minister has said that it is important that we have a good relationship with the US, as it has been in years past,” he told NTB.

The news agency caught up with the Crown Prince Couple at the Marine Institute in Newfoundland, Canada. The couple is finishing up an official visit to Canada, which began in Ottawa on Monday.

The Norwegian royals traditionally do not express any political views in public but said Haakon and his wife Crown Princess Mette-Marit said that they had been following the US election very closely.

“I think it is exciting to following along with the election. I am very interested in American politics because I studied political science in the US,” he told gossip mag Se og Hør on Thursday.

Prince Haakon received his bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of California Berkeley before getting his Master’s from the London School of Economics.
