Rescue workers freed the border collie after days trapped in ruins in Norcia, one of the worst-hit towns by the October 29th tremblor.
Although they reunited the dog with his owner, the pup's grateful family have said that the local fire service can keep him, in order to train him as a rescue dog.

The collie has been named Terremoto (Earthquake), according to animal rights organization Enpa, whose volunteers have been working with fire service to help the many animals affected by the recent series of earthquakes.
Terremoto isn't the only pet who will live out a happy ending after being rescued from one of the destroyed towns – police in Perugia have adopted two other rescued puppies. Plenty of other animals have been reunited with their relieved families.

So far, almost 1,000 animals have received assistance from Enpa in the quake-hit region of central Italy, through donations of pet food or medical help. The area is largely agricultural, so lots of animals were affected by the quake.
A total of 158 have received veterinary help; 59 dogs, 63 cats, 13 chickens, ten tortoises, four parrots, five canaries, two geese, one hedgehog and a hamster. There has only been one reported animal death from the October quakes so far, a dog who had been pulled from the rubble in serious condition in Nottoria.
