The body of Steven Allford was discovered in the morning of October 21st by a security guard about 100 yards from the Malaga airport train station.

Police were baffled by the bizarre circumstances of the 51-year-old’s death as he was found with hishands and feet fixed to a bench with plastic ties and his trousers around his ankles and

The man, who was known to be sleeping rough in the Malaga area and pushed his belonging around in a luggage trolley, was discovered with a slice of  ham placed on each buttock and his genitals placed inside an open tuna can.

A post-mortem showed he had choked to death on his own vomit after a heavy drinking session.

Police believe he may have died after a fellow homeless man attempted to teach him a lesson because he had refused to share his food.

Officers detained a 50 year-old man from Finland who also slept rough in Malaga and he has been remanded into custody pending an investigation. He is being held on suspicion of “involuntary manslaughter”.

One theory is that he was arranged in the bizarre pose after passing out, possibly in recrimination for not sharing his food, and that his positioning contributed to his death.

According to sources close to the case “Acquaintances of the pair have told investigators the dead man had had fallouts with other vagrants because he expected to share their food but wouldn't reciprocate when he had something to eat.”

“The authorities believe there was a message behind the food that was left on him which was: “Stick the ham up your a*** and the tuna in your gonads,” one insider said according to a report in The Daily Mail.
