Halloween weekend: Sunny skies and nightmare traffic

November 1^st is a national holiday across Spain and Spaniards traditionally mark All Saints’ Day with a trip to the ancestral family village to visit their dearly departed.

As All Saints Day falls on a Tuesday this year, many will take a ‘puente’ – a day off to bridge the bank holiday with the weekend and indeed all the schools are off on Monday.

Authorities have warned that that means a bumper weekend of traffic jams with a mass exodus from large cities on Friday night and a hellish return on Tuesday evening.

Spain’s DGT traffic authorities warned drivers to drive safely as an estimated 5.5 million journeys are expected between now and Tuesday.

But the good news is that clear skies and warm weather are forecast across Spain over next few days, with temperatures soaring into the high 20s in the south of the peninsula.
