SAS adds 15 new routes from Scandinavia

For Scandinavians feeling bummed out by the approach of winter, there is already good reason to start planning an escape to warmer locales.

SAS announced on Tuesday that it will add 15 new routes from Copenhagen, Stockholm and Oslo beginning in summer 2017.

Six of the new offerings will be all-year routes while the airline will also add new departures to popular destinations in southern Europe.

“SAS has more departures and destinations than any other Scandinavian airline and we are continuously improving our offer to our customers. The way we do this includes opening new routes, offering all new cabins, fast track, lounges plus we are about to take delivery of our first new Airbus A320neo,” the airline’s CEO, Rickard Gustafson, said in a press release.

Denmark-based travellers are the biggest beneficiaries of the new all-year routes. SAS will add flights from Copenhagen Airport to the Faroe Islands and Riga, as well as a new route between Aalborg and Oslo.

In Stockholm, routes will be added to Munich and Krakow. In addition to the Oslo-Aalborg route, travellers in Norway will also be offered a new flight from Bergen to Gdansk.

Scandinavians will also have nine new summer routes in Europe. SAS is adding flights from Copenhagen to Malta and Olbia; from Aarhus to Malaga; from Oslo to Pristina; from Stavanger to Nice; from Kristiansand to Malaga and from Stockholm to Lisbon, Shannon and Pristina.

The airline will also increase capacity by a total of 330,000 seats during the summer season for flights from Scandinavia to popular destinations in Spain, Portugal and Croatia.

Gustafson said that SAS would continue to roll out new summer routes in the coming years.

Stockholm-Pristina (summer high season)
