Why is there a giant clitoris in a field in southern France?

A farmer's crop field in southern France has been adorned with a giant clitoris in a bid to end the taboo around female sexual pleasure.

In this case the clitoris is easy to find and no one will have excuses for not knowing where it is. Although some locals have mistaken it for an octopus.

The 120-metre long explicit crop circle, that could be mistaken for a half a garlic, has been mowed into a field next to a high school in the village of Montferrier-sur-Lez, close to Montpellier on the Mediterranean coast.

The cunning stunt is the work of two sexologists and is aimed at stimulating a debate about the taboo that continues to surround the female sexual organ often referred to as the “joy button”.

It was created of Marie-Noëlle Lanuit and Jean-Claude Piquard who went to great lengths to denounce the “code of silence” around the clitoris, especially in school textbooks.

“The clitoris still has no visibility in biology textbooks. Either it’s absent or it is included but with no mention that it is the organ of female pleasure,” Lanuit told Midi-Libre newspaper.

“Female pleasure is taboo in the medical world. Only the vaginal pleasure is taught where the clitoris plays a secondary role, with arguments that are often incompatible with anatomical data,” the sexperts say.

“It is sometimes named, but it is never drawn in textbooks in the complete form. In books it is usually presented as a small bean.”

Their desire to raise awareness will climax on Sunday when the pair are appealing to women to gather around the giant clitoris crop, dressed in red to represent the colour of the organ's nerve endings.

While the giant clitoris can fit around 100 people, they two sexperts have no idea how many will come.
