Thirty départements in France – mostly in the south and the west – were hit with the restrictions from the Ministry of the Environment for both Tuesday and Wednesday.

A crisis water restriction level was issued for fourteen of these départements, seen in red on the map below, meaning that farmers have to put a stop to any unscheduled withdrawals from levies, and that only priority water use can be undertaken (for health, sanitation, or drinking).

The départements affected are: Eure-et-Loir, Indre, Loire-Atlantique, Vendée, Deux-Sèvres, Charente-Maritime, Charente, Dordogne, Lot, Tarn-et-Garonne, Gers, Haute-Garonne, Tarn and Aude.

Other areas were issued orange and yellow alerts, which also affects farmers, and calls on residents to stop watering their gardens and washing their cars.

There will be some relief however, going into Wednesday afternoon. After most of the morning and early afternoon is set to be warm across most of France (see map below), showers are forecast to move in throughout the late afternoon.
