Walkers stumble across two giant snakes in Austria

Two groups of walkers in Austria were met with an unwelcome surprise on Saturday after stumbling across giant snakes while out for a stroll.

Two women walking in the Lower Austrian town of Semmering spotted one of the snakes and reported it to local mountain rescue services who sent three rescuers to investigate.

After a quick search, they found an exotic one-metre-long snake from the Boa family and were able to catch it and bring it back to the rescue headquarters.

Incredibly, they were met at the rescue centre by another group of walkers with a very similar complaint.

The second lot of walkers said they had also seen a huge snake on a hiking trail near the bottom of a local cable car.

After making their way to the location they found the second snake – also an exotic boa – and brought it back to put it with the other one.

It is thought that the two boa snakes, which have now been handed over to a local animal home, were set free by an owner.
